IT Naturally is proud to announce we have submitted our application to become a B Corp.
It’s a very detailed process, measuring our companies entire social and environmental impact from community, compliance, our workers, customers and governance.
In November 2021, the company became carbon neutral, but that was just the beginning, we wanted to continue our journey of corporate social responsibility.
We launched IT Naturally with the intention of being a different kind of MSP (Managed Service Provider). CEOs Julie & Richard are passionate about working towards a better world and helping our customers do the same. Because of this, when we began our application, we found that we were already 75% of the way there, just a few added policies and the need to look forward more.
What is B Corp Certification
B Corp Certification is given to a business that is meeting high standards of verified performance, accountability, and transparency on factors from employee benefits and charitable giving to supply chain practices and input materials.
To achieve certification, a company must:
- Demonstrate high social and environmental performance by achieving a B Impact Assessment score of 80 or above and passing our risk review. Multinational corporations must also meet baseline requirement standards.
- Make a legal commitment by changing their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders, and achieve benefit corporation status if available in their area.
- Exhibit transparency by allowing information about their performance measured against B Lab’s standards to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.
The application was a real team effort and included Julie our CEO, and Nneka our Finance Manager.
Jess, our Head of Service handled the customer activities ensuring that IT Naturally are supplying excellent value to our customers whilst maintaining our corporate and social responsibility.
“I’ve really enjoyed becoming involved our B-Corp journey. It has developed our thinking on who we are as a company and who we want to do business with. On a personal note, it’s allowed me to reflect on what sort of consumer I want to be and what companies I want to buy from. With the cost of living being such an influence in all our lives now, I want to ensure that I am playing my social and corporate part.”
Patrick, one of our IT Service Desk Team Leads pulled together an ethical risk assessment, covering everything environmental.
“My eyes have been widened. Before working on becoming a B-Corp at IT Naturally, I really didn’t consider some of the simpler things that happen in an organisation and how responsible we are for maintaining a sustainable lifestyle and future. Working on this project has allowed me to see things in a different way and equipped me with a whole new perspective and ability when enforcing and encouraging simple yet important practices that can be adopted at work to provide a better healthier future for our world and the people in it.”
Jenny, our HR Manager was responsible for ensuring all our existing HR policies were pulled together as well as writing new policies that were required.
“It was great working with all different departments in our company to gather and produce the information required for BCorp, everyone was all hands to the deck. Although we are a new company, I was pleased that we had so much of the information required and that our mission, values and ethics are really in line with B Corp”
The hard work for now is done, it’s really encouraged us as a company to continue to look forward and continue our journey. We’ll have to wait around 6 to 8 months to hear the outcome and whether we can call ourselves a B Corp. Fingers crossed.
