Our people are our best asset at IT Naturally and here is just one shining example from our team.
Jay Jayasinghe is the first in IT Naturally’s history to earn a double promotion, moving from Service Desk to Analyst, and now to Engineer!
At IT Naturally, we believe in nurturing talent from within, providing our people with the tools and opportunities to grow their careers.
As a B Corp MSP, we invest in our employees and we don’t just talk the talk, every team member has access to an unlimited training budget, but it’s up to them to make the most of this opportunity.
We wanted to share Jay’s journey, an example of what’s possible when hard work meets opportunity.
Here’s his story:
Always Driven by Security
Jay joined the IT Naturally family in 2021 as a Service Desk Agent, but he had always had a fascination with Cyber Security and knew from the start that that’s what he hoped to move into,
“The evolving threats and the constant need to learn are what keep me going. There’s never a dull moment, and I’d get bored doing the same thing over and over.
Within a year Jay has an opportunity to go for an internal move to Cyber Security Analyst – which he succeeded in.
Nonstop Learning with LinkedIn Learning and On-the-Job Training
Since that move, Jay has taken full advantage of IT Naturally’s unlimited training budget, spending countless hours outside of work studying and preparing for exams, including Microsoft Security Administration and AlienVault Security Engineer certifications. He even sacrificed gym time to dedicate himself to improving his skills! Jay’s proactive approach to personal development reflects IT Naturally’s commitment to providing every team member with the resources and encouragement they need to thrive.
For Jay, learning is a key part of his success within the company and in his role. “LinkedIn Learning and our training portals are just a blessing,” he said. “It helps me stay on top of everything – it’s all at your fingertips. If you want to be good at your job, you just need to keep learning.”
Building Robust Security Systems
In his new role as Cyber Security Engineer, Jay has already started applying his extensive knowledge to build secure environments, implement security controls, and respond to real-world incidents.
“Small doesn’t mean safe,” he emphasised, referring to the vulnerabilities faced by small and medium-sized businesses that often think they’re not a target.
Jay has been instrumental in building and enhancing IT Naturally’s own security systems, including our functional security and event management system. His role goes beyond solving security incidents; it’s about being part of the solution from the ground up.
A Shout-Out to Supportive Mentors
Jay credits much of his success to the mentorship he’s received along the way, giving special thanks to Les Best and Tim Leech.
“Les has been a huge help in pushing me forward. Tim has been a calm presence under pressure, always believing we could get things done.”
This internal promotion is just one milestone in what promises to be an exciting career for Jay. He’s not planning on stopping anytime soon, with another security exam already on the horizon.
“Since joining us, Jay has shown relentless dedication to learning and development through our unlimited training budget, constantly taking on new training and seeking out ways to grow.
“When you ask Jay to do something, you know it’s going to be done – and done to a high standard
“He’s been performing at an engineer’s level for some time, so when we had an opening, it made perfect sense to promote him. This is a proud moment for us as we always strive to promote from within, and this promotion recognises Jay’s years of hard work and commitment.”
